Jonathan Berkson, new head of recoveries, Litigation and a new arrival

Jonathan Berkson
Jonathan joined Bermans in 2013 following a stellar career with leading national firm and was the Liverpool Law Society’s “Solicitor of the Year”. He has become a key member of the asset based lending team. He will be a familiar face to many of you assisting lenders with commercial recovery work and he has worked on some highly complex cases, including acting for a US commercial financier in a claim under a Connecticut law guarantee against a UK based guarantor.
The Agreement and guarantee were challenged by the guarantor but after two High Court trials and a Court of Appeal ruling, Jonathan’s client was successful in obtaining judgment. (Porter Capital v Masters 2017 EWHC 2215 – Orter Capital Corporation v Zulfikar Masters – vLex United Kingdom
He is Chair of the Liverpool Law Society’s Civil Litigation Committee and has now taken on the role of head of Recoveries at Bermans. This will involve him spending time in Bermans Manchester office, supporting clients, many of whom have a presence in the Manchester area.
To support Jonathan in his role he has recruited Adam Tiesteel, as an Associate, who qualified as a solicitor in 2020 and has focused on recoveries and enforcement since completing his legal practice course in 2018.
Jonathan comments “It is an honour to lead such a well-established and respected litigation team within the ABL market. Many will remember Andrew Henderson and he has left the team in great shape to take on the developing challenges in recoveries work. With the mixture of experience, the assistance of Adam and our investment in technology we are well placed to serve our clients going forward. I am delighted to take on the role and with rollout of a client portal in 2025, look forward to meeting many of you soon?…”
