New Guidance on Schools Leasing

The FLA has joined forces with the Department for Education (DfE) and the National Association of School Business Management (NASBM) in producing a new document “Leasing Guidance for Schools”.

This document replaces the previous FLA publication from 2011 – ‘Tips for Successful Leasing in Schools’.

The new Guide seeks to encourage the use of operating leases by schools and defers to the view that a finance lease should not normally be used by a school, though interestingly the Guide steers well clear of the contentious issue of the extent to which academies are subject to the same prohibition.

The DfE and NASBM have placed the Guide on relevant websites and made it available to schools.
